52 x 2 photo project - February 2023

Hi everyone, I hope you and yours are doing well. This week I am continuing sharing my 52 x 2 photo project with you. 2 photos per week for 52 weeks - one colur and one mono per week. Below are my February images.

Week 1 - 1 February 2023 - colour - Outside some housing units I saw this little patch of gorgeous sunflowers. So I went back with my camera to photograph them.

Week 1 - 3 February 2023 - mono - a walk bridge over the water between the Leschenault Inlet and Koombana Bay in Bunbury.

Week 2 - 6 February 2023 - Mono - Giant red tingle tree in the Valley of the Giants at Walpole in our Great Southern Region of Western Australia, taken during a little getaway.

Week 2 - 7 February 2023 - Colour - Driving through the karri forest along the Karri Explorer drive in the Pemberton region during our little getaway. More about this later.

Week 3 - 12 February 2023 - Colour - Banksia Baxteri - Baxter's Banksia. I bought a bunch of these gorgeous banksias in Balingup on the way home from our little getaway. You can see more if you click on the link.

Week 3 - 15 February 2023 - Mono - playing with a little still life photography for a photogrpahy group topic.

I ended up entering this one, and received a Gold award for it - a collection of my grandmother's mother's, and mother-in-laws old spoons etc, plus a few of my own.

Week 4 - 20 February 2023 - Mono - the Safety Bay jetty near Rockingham

Week 4 - 21 February 2023 - Colour - On an overnight trip to Rockingham a couple of hours north of home, we took a ferry ride to Penguin Island and then a dolphin-sealion boat tour and penguin discovery talk. We hadn't been to Penguin Island since we were teenagers - it's changed a lot! More on this later!

The Penguins are so cute!

BONUS shot - We went to the South West Multicultural Festival in Bunbury on the 18 February. Always a fabulous afternoon of free multicultural entertainment. And a great opportunity to experience cultural dance. Unfortunately I couldn't stay for the evening show. This is a vibrant Colombian dancer.

And the beautiful Nicole from Sol y Sombra Spanish Dance Company in Bunbury. I've blogged about them many times before. Sadly I haven't danced this past year due to a foot problem.

A few more pics from the Multicultural festival

Thank you so much for stopping by. I value your comments and look forward to hearing from you. I will try to visit your blogs in return. Have a wonderful week.

52 x 2 - 2023 photo project

Hi everyone, I hope you and yours are doing well. I am a little late posting this week. At the beginning of January I was 'encouraged' by a fellow photography group member to do another 52x2 photo project - 52 weeks - 2 photos a week - one colour and one mono. It is certainly a good way of keeping up your photography practise and actively looking for things to photograph.

And trying mono photography too. Mono is black and white - or shades of one colour - for instance you could have a photo which is all shades of blue. I wrote more about mono photography in a previous blog post - click on the link highlighted in the previous sentence.

I did a 52x2 in 2015 and also a couple of 365's - a photo every day! - in 2014 and 2020-21 during the Covid pandemic.

I am certainly not going to make any promises about keeping the project up for a whole year - but I have made a start - here are the first 4 weeks - January 1-28th.

It's been very hot - so we haven't been far from home in January.

Week 1 - colour - for the '50' topic for photography group -

Week 1 - mono - agapanthus - from below -

Week 2 - mono - trees along the road from town to home

Week 3 - colour - sunset over the Leschenault Estuary -

Week 4 - colour - lavender in my garden - the bees are loving it -

Week 3 - mono - old spoons - for a 'still life' topic for photography group -

Week 4 - colour - Australia Dray fireworks over Koombana Bay in Bunbury

Week 4 - mono - enamel plates and cup on the sink!

Bonus shot - week 4 - dragon boat regatta hosted by the Forza Dragon Boat Club in Bunbury

That's it from me for this week. Have you ever done a photo a day project?

Little blogging break

H everyone, I hope you and yours are doing well. I am having a little blogging break for a few weeks during a summer January while we have visitors coming and going. Back soon!

It is summer, and there have been a number of bad bushfires down in the southern parts as well as devistating cylconic once in a hundred years flooding in the northern Kimberley. Much of the north of the state is cut off.

I took this photo last night over the estuary where we walk in the evening after dinner - the colurs are thanks to the bushfire - it made for brilliant colours - but we could do without the bushfires. Thousands of hectares have been lost.

A friend has talked me into doing another 52 x 2 project - one colour and one mono image each week for 52 weeks. I have done one before plus a couple of 365 projects (1 a day for a year!). will see how I go - no promises.

Take care everyone wherever you are and whatever you are doing.

Continuing my 52-2 project

My regular readers may remember that in 2014 I completed a 365 project - one photo a day for a year. If you go to the link you can see my 2014 year in pictures - 365 project  It was a huge undertaking, but I found it hard to stop when the year ended so I embarked on a new project - 52-2. This is a project conducted through the Western Australian Photographic Federation and is encouraged by our local Photography Group of Bunbury. You can read more about it here - WAPF - 52-2 project

The brief for the project is to take two photos a week - one colour and one mono for 52 weeks. It is actually a great way to get into the habit of experimenting with mono images. I introduced my project to you on a blog post in early February - A new photography project for 2015 and I thought today I would bring you an update

PS - I did finish this project - and printed a book at the end - for some reason I haven't shared with you.  Sorry!
