Aussie 12 days of Christmas
My true love sent to me
An emu up a gum tree
My true love
sent to me
Twelve parrots
prattling
Nine wombats working
Eight dingos digging
Six brolgas dancing
Five kangaroos
Four koalas cuddling (can you see the baby just under the mother's arm? - so cute!)
Three kookaburras
Another version - 12 days of Aussie Christmas
Twelve surfing Santas
Half a dozen
snags (sausages)
Five rusty utes
Four footy fans
Three meat
trays
Two jackaroos (stockmen on a cattle station ie ranch)
A platypus up a
gum tree
Aussie Jingle Bells
Dashing through the bush
In a rusty Holden ute
Kicking up the dust
Esky in the boot
Kelpie by my side
Singing Christmas songs
It’s summer time and I am in My singlet, shorts and thongs
We dodge the kangaroos
The swaggie climbs abroad
He is welcome too
All the family’s here
Sitting by the pool
Christmas day, the Aussie way
By the barbecue!
Come the afternoon
Grandpa has a doze
The kids and Uncle Bruce
Are swimming in their clothes
The time comes round to go
We take the family snap
Pack the car and all shoot through
Before the washing up!
Christmas in Australia
On a scorching summer’s day
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Christmas time is beaut
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a rusty Holden Ute.
and something more traditional....... (I remember singing this at school when I was in the choir) The North Wind - by John Wheeler
The North wind is tossing the
leaves
The red dust is over the town
The sparrows are under the eaves
And the grass in the paddock is
brown
As we lift up our voices and sing
The cool stream flows silently by
The joy bells are greeting the day
And the chimes are adrift in the sky
As we lift up our voices and sing
To the Christ child, the heavenly king.
"Christmas is all about light in darkness. Light always conquers."
These are so fun! Thanks for sharing them here. Have a very happy Christmas!
ReplyDeleteA really entertaining post especially the Ronan Keating song. Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteA fabulous blog post!! I loved this look at Christmas 'Down Under'!! Hope yours was grand and that the New Year will be a good one for you and yours!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love them. I will trade Christmas season with you. Since the last three years, my family has not been able to get together because Covid, and now the blizzard storm no one could come out, I've decided to move it to Summer with a cook out. Winter Christmas can go away. We celebrate Jesus every day anyway. :)
ReplyDeleteJill - we were just talking about this the other day - so the subject of your post is spot on! It is interesting to me how music becomes inextricably entwined with our memories and feelings about various holidays - it wouldn't be the same without it! I also appreciated your comments about missing someone from the table - my husband lost his only aunt this month, and although we don't see them at this time of year, it certainly affected our joy of the season. And yes, light always conquers!!! A very Happy New Year to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos! Hello Jill, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a lovely comment. You can find the tutorial for the origami trees on https://www.pinterest.com/pin/511510470190275325/. All the best for 2023! Hope it's a good one.
