Enjoying the Australian bush

This time of year with crisp cold mornings, it is a delight to go walking in the bush, particularity on days like last Sunday when we had a clear sunny day. Just to wander with my camera trying to catch the light filtering through the trees and taking time to be quiet and at peace away from the usual work-day world.

All these photos were taken with my 100mm macro lens.  I achieved this look below by moving the camera quickly upwards as I took the photo. Do you like it? You can see before and after here.

And slightly sideways with the shape of the grass tree.

There were no wildflowers flowering yet, as it is mid winter here, but there were opportunities for closeups everywhere, which is the reason why I was using my macro lens.

This plant is known as Water Bush (bossiaea aquifolium). It collects rainwater on its leaves and gives you a shower if you brush by. They are covered in yellow pea flowers in spring. As you can see the leaves have sharp points.

Below you can see the Water Bush in flower in images I took last September.  The branches are weighed down by the weight of the rainwater and flowers.

Do you remember I told you about the Snotty Gobble - Persoonia -  tree last week? Well here it is again. I found one with green fruit on it. The fruit are edible and were bush-tucker for the indigenous people of the area. But trust me, don't try them in this green state!
Underneath the outer bark is a gorgeous deep red.

Camera or no, don't you think there is something invigorating about walking in the bush or forest?

Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope you have enjoyed this walk through the Australian bush with me.  Do you have a favourite bush walking place? It is sometimes amazing what you might see down in the woods......like this chair. It's been sitting here for a few years now. Obviously left by someone.

You never know what you might find!
I value your comments and look forward to hearing from you. I will try to visit your blogs in return. Have a wonderful week.

  4. These are beautiful Jill - I love just about any area of bush as long as the weather isn't too hot, although I must admit to loving rainforest the most.

  9. Yes you are right - there is nothing more invigorating that a bushwalk in the winter. It is far too hot to undertake such a pursuit in Summer here. Love the Snotty Gobbles!!

  13. How delightful and every image just showers us ;) with what we would desire seeing in nature. You got some beautiful structures, elements, lighting, and a splash of rain water, which brings about life that would not show, were it not there. I loved all of these. The plant with the sharp points reminds me of a few that I have here and they can really grab you, if not careful. Hugs to you~

  16. Dear Jill,

so sorry to not be able to visit a couple of weeks now, there was so much to do here in my life 1.0 that I somehow neglected my blog-life...

I so much like your pictures - I have the feeling I can "hear" the silence in the wood, I would like to take a walk around there. I also like the light you caught in your pictures! Great!

    All the best for you,
    Ioana

  18. I love the grass photo Jill, and of course the flowers. I love visiting fall at your place when the weather is heating up here. I love to go for a walk along the river in a town just down the hill. It is a favorite walk I often take on Sunday's.

  20. I agree that you don't need a camera to enjoy walking in the bush - but I find taking and using my camera actually enhances the experience. Am I the only one who can 'see' better through the lens?? LOVE your blur pix - I find my shaking hand helps me achieve a similar effect, haha!! Hope you had a great weekend!
