I have always loved tropical gardens and the gardens of the Park Royal Hotel where we stayed were amazing.
Our first view - welcome -
I could easily have just laid by the pool and done very little. Nice? Wouldn't you just love to have just a little bit of this garden at home?

In the gardens of the Park Royal and around Penang there were flowers of just about every colour you can think of -
You would expect frangipanis - nothing says tropical more than they - but check out these red ones!
and more red and orange and pink
I've seen these before in Singapore - isn't it amazing how a flower can grow like this -
This hummingbird was really enjoying lunching on this flower -
yellow - I would love the hibiscus in the top LH corner to be in my garden -
and look at this delicate beauty -
purple - even the leaves get a look in on this one
white and spidery -
water lilies - in ponds and in pots -
and the palm trees were not outdone by the flowers - I really loved this one with the huge fan leaves -I might have to see if I can buy one for the tropical "room" of my garden -
Can you see the creepers growing up the palm trunks? And this palm (center top) with the brilliant red stalks, but evidently I can't grow them in Australia - don't worry I've checked.
These bright orange leaves certainly brighten up a green garden. And don't you just love these little hanging hearts? -
I certainly didn't expect to see one of the Australian bottlebrush family! Not a tropical plant but growing very well in the tropical pool garden.
There was an avenue of huge shady spreading trees along a road where we waited for a bus one afternoon
At days end the sky was adding its own splash of colour
Do you have a favorite tropical destination?
I'll be back next time with my travel tips from Penang - but until then if you want to find out about the Park Royal Hotel located along Batu Ferringhi beach, please click here - Park Royal Penang - and no I wasn't paid to promote them.
Thanks for stopping by. I value your comments and look forward to hearing from you. Have a wonderful week.

Fantastic flowers and great photos, thanks for the tour. Sounds like you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a an incredible tropical paradise from flowers to foliage. I have never ventured to the tropics so I am open to many destinations.
ReplyDeleteThe trouble with the tropics is that it is very humid - especially if you are walking about sight-seeing. Much better to lay by the pool.
Deletewow, what a beautiful garden and hotel.. I would love to visit there myself.. The bird is pretty and I love all the gorgeous flowers.. Beautiful post, thanks for sharing your trip!
ReplyDeletethanks Eileen - I thought you might enjoy a bird pic
DeleteThank you for sharing your tropical vacation. I'm seeing a lot of white here (snow), so I especially loved your vivid shots of blooms.
ReplyDeletesnow already! has winter come early?
DeletePenang is beautiful, I think it is too small a word for the place.
ReplyDeleteI haven't visited yet, hopefully someday I will.
A beautiful place to visit with colourful flowers and foliage.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking to Mosaic Monday.
I'm so glad you had a wonderful getaway to Penang. It's ironic from my perspective that you travel there when I find your home country absolutely intoxicating, Jill :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Mike. I find my county intoxicating too - in fact I think it is the most beautiful place I have ever been too. Travel makes me realize how very lucky I am to live in this amazing corner of the world.
DeleteThose tropical flowers are beautiful. I do love the tropical gardens in Bali, particularly in the highlands of Ubud. I'm glad you had a nice relaxing break. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jill ... so nice to know you could enjoy a wonderful break surrounded by the beauty of nature ... just what you needed. I've never been to Penang but your pics make me want to hop on the next jet plane and fly away!!
ReplyDeletebeing able to relax completely was exactly what I needed after the last few months. I have come back feeling much better.
DeleteThey certainly have the climate to grow those beautiful flowers, fabulous photos Jill, thanks xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteWith temperatures dropping and the rain falling here in London, I would love to be sitting by that pool in those tropical surroundings. Ahhhhhhh
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful, beautiful photos! I too cannot take enough photos of tropical plants. . .in my mind it is picking a bouquet of them to take home and enjoy long after the trip has ended. You presented us with a beautiful bouquet of your memories~
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed the hotel, it looks divine. Those gardens would mean that I would want to stay well and firmly ensconsed in them. Oh the tropical flowers and colours - love love love. I didn't realise Frangipanis came in so many colours, nor Hibiscus. Sometimes I think I'm in the wrong country - but then as Mike said above, he can't believe we can travel to other places when our own country is so intoxicating :)
ReplyDeleteYou must search for some of these different colour Frangipanis to go around your pool Jo. They would look spectacular.
DeleteI still have lots of places to travel to in Australia - I am nowhere near done yet!
A week of R&R sounds really good to me too. What a great lot of beautiful flowers and such a joy to have the time to take pictures. I've never been to Penang but would love to visit for the food alone.
ReplyDeleteI like looking at Penang through your eyes. I always meant to take photos of the flowers but somehow never got around it. Too late for now. You picked an excellent hotel, and I'm glad that you had a chance to unwind. I was just commenting that central Texas today is the same temperature as Penang typically is. But it's much drier here, so the heat doesn't feel bad at all unlike in Penang. I look forward to hearing more about your trip.
ReplyDeleteit is certainly a lot more humid in Penang than it is in Australia too. The humidity makes it feel a lot hotter, especially if you are out walking. The hotel was really lovely. Pay a bit extra and you get something special. Thanks for your travel tips Michele.
DeleteGorgeous shots, Jill! Penang is definitely the place to find beautiful flora and fauna. If I had known this hotel had such a great garden I would have had a peek around...haha. Your sunset shots are lovely, too.
ReplyDeleteYou should try out this hotel next time you are in Penang Nancy, or just walk straight in through to the garden as if you are meant to be there!
Deletethe humming bird photo is neat!
ReplyDeleteTropical destinations...hmm, we usually head for the mountains, but if I could go, it would probably be back to Maui, Hawaii... Jill, I am so pleased for you all to have been able to have made this journey and that having made plans back in February that the end came in time to give you the time you needed to say farewell and make peace, before leaving. The gardens are absolutely pure beauty and the colours are so delightful. This had to be so wonderful and I can imagine that it brought you great comfort taking in the beauty,
ReplyDeleteThe hummingbird photo is fabulous! I remember being so enchanted by all the flowers and gardens in Penang. We were only there for a day to explore, but it was such a special and memorable stop.
ReplyDeleteJill, you've captured the color and exuberence of the tropical flowers and folige so well! I especially love the first shot looking through the doorway and those fan palms. (I want some of those fan palms too!) If these pictures are any indication, your trip must have been lovely!
