Doodling on botanical-contact-eco-prints

Hi everyone, looks like I have been missing in action. My last post on 25th February said where did February go? and I am thinking March is going much the same way.

But I do have an excuse, I am getting ready for the annual Treet Street Art Safari on this coming Saturday 23 March. This is something I have been involved with for a few years now, at the home of my wonderful host Maggie, in Banksia Street. It is a great opportunity to get my art out in public and hopefully make a few sales.

One of the things I have been doing this year is doodling on my eco-prints. I call it tizzying up! I decided some of my greeting card prints needed something to lift them. Below you can see originals on the left - papers printed with cosmos flowers - and the tizzied up on the right - overdrawn with Posca ink pens - a fast drying water-based pigment ink. Comes in many colours and thicknesses. I have been using the 0.7mm white mainly or the black or gold. I don't plan too much, just pick up the pen and doodle!

Some more over cosmos flowers

And over coreopsis flowers on the left and some eucalypt leaves on the right.

and some eucalypt leaf prints

I have been overdrawing on and off for a few years, and I have heard of other ecoprinters doing this also. Originally I was using caligraphy type ink pens, but I love these Posca pens. And no I am not an agent....

I also eco-print on scarves, upcycled tops and tote bags .....

eucalypt loves wool - this is karri leaves from our great southern region

If I was younger and slimmer I would be wearing the little (previously white) denim skirt printed with eucalypt leaves!

Still a few things I need to do so I must get back to it - only 4 days till the market day!

Art Market in the Garden

Hi everyone, I hope you and yours are doing well.

Just a short post from me today. I am winding down from a busy few weeks and weekend. On Sunday I had a market stall at the Stirling Street Art Centre in my hometown. It was there annual Art in the Garden market. A great place to buy products created by local artisans - everything from soap and candles to clothing, art pieces, pottery, wood carvings, garden objects - you name it you could probably buy it at the market. I've been so busy getting products ready for the market.

I was there with my eco-printing-dyed upcycled-clothing, scarves, prints and greeting cards, along with my photography prints, cushion covers, tote bags and greeting cards, as well as some paper flowers I make for every market and Christmas baubles filled with dried wildflowers.

Above is a pic of me with my stall. Unfortunately it was a hot hot and windy day, with a side serve of flys. Amazingly people weren't put off by the weather and still came to the market. It has been so hot the last couple of weeks - an unseasonly very hot - heat wave - start to summer, with bushfires already raging. It's goig to be a bad summer.

Below you can see a few samples of my eco-print products.

Eco-printing on paper

Cyanotype sun prints on paper, Christmas cards, and tote bags

My latest craze - printing with coreopsis flowers from my front garden - the colour of summer

Also I have ecoprinted scarves, upcycle shirts and tote bags

I loved this little white denim mini skirt and lace edge cotton upcylced top printed with ecualyptus leaves - but unfortunately it didn't sell. Maybe next time.

Eucalyptus loves wool - but not all leaves print orange - these are eucalyptus karri leaves I source from a friend in the great southern who has them growing on her property - they love wool.

I still have so much to learn - I'm off to a 3 day workshop in Albany for summer school early next year.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I value your comments and look forward to hearing from you.

Tree Street Art Safari 25th March 2023

Hi everyone. I hope you and yours are well.

I have spent the last couple of months getting ready for the Tree Street Art Safari in my home town last Saturday. This event is run by the Stirling Street Arts Centre in the "tree" street area of Bunbury. Residents host artists in their gardens. It is a fabulous event and the opportunity for people to visit artists they might not normally see.

I had lots on offer - ecoprint wool and silk scarves, totebags, greeting cards, note books & upcyled eco-printed TShirts. Photo products on prints, totes, cushion covers and greeting cards. And paper flowers!

Plus I had for sale my writers group, the South Side Quills latest anotholgy "Aspects of Childhood". You can see it on the right had side bar here....

The day dawned clear and warm and we had a very busy day welcoming over 900 people through our display. There were lots of people out and about making it a vibrant event.

Firstly I must say THANKYOU to my wonderful, obliging and generous hosts Maggie & Alec for hosting me again this year for the Tree Street Art Safari. I was truly blessed when I was paired with them several years ago. THANKYOU to everyone who visited and THANKYOU to those who purchased from me or commented on my work. I truly appreciate you all and enjoyed meeting and talking with you.

And THANKYOU to my husband without whose support i couldn't do any of this.

A lucky visitor walked away with my favourite framed photo print of spices tucked under her arm to put up in her new kitchen.

I had lots of prints and greeting cards.

There were cushions and tote bags from my print on demand on-line Red Bubble range.

Eco printed wool and silk scarves

Including my new favourite printed with coreopsis yellow daisies from my front garden. It just loves being printed on wool and silk and even cotton. I loved this cute little top on the right hand side here, but unfortunately it didn't fit me...

And lots of other T's including these...

Eco printing greeting cards, notebooks, tote bags, and scarves.

And paper flowers

Now to get ready for the Dardanup Art Trail on the weekend of 29-30 April

Thank you so much for stopping by. And please excuse the blatant advertising. Do you have an art market you visit? Perhaps you would like to share in your comments.

Tree Street Art Safari 2022

 Hi everyone. How are you?

The last couple of years I have exhibited at the Tree Street Art Safari market - so named because artists are hosted in the beautiful heritage style homes of the Tree Street area in Bunbury. This year due to Covid concerns for home owners, the safari was moved to Forrest Park. I wasn't sure how it would work, as I had a much smaller area than the beautiful space I have had the last few years in Banksia Street, however it ended up being a fabulous day for me. I had botanical eco-prints (also called contact printing) and photography on offer. Lots of people stopped by my stall to either purchase from me, talk to me about my work, or just say hi. It was a very busy day!

Here is a pic of me at the Art Safari wearing a top I made out of an old upcycled sheet - first eco-printed with eucalypt leaves and then cut and sewed by me only last week! It was really cool, lightweight, and comfy and I enjoyed wearing it.

I didn't have a chance to walk around and visit the other nearly 50 artists or take pics, but here are a few from the Tree Street Art Safari facebook page.

A few of my eco-prints on paper, embellished with paint made from bark and ochre.

tote bags - on upcycled cotton or hemp/cotton with calico lining - sewn by me

and upcycled tops - mostly printed with eucalypt leaves

Wool and silk scarves - this one on the left below is kangaroo paw leaves on silk, and the orange one is eucalypt karri leaves on wool. The one below the group photo is one of the red flowering eucalypts on silk.

Greeting cards on paper

And a few of my cushions printed with my photography

Now I need to get printing some more scarves, totes and tops for the next art market in June.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope you and yours are doing well and that you forgive me for blantant self promotion today.
I have many people to thank for their inspiration and guidance on this botanical eco-print journey..... Jane, India, Maria, Penny, Helen, Nicola, Linda, Rita, Bozena and many others including botanical print groups on Facebook. Thankyou!

The war in Ukraine continues and the country and its people are being destroyed. I pray for an end to the bloodshed.
