Where would you like to fly to?

Where would you like to fly to? Flying can take you to far away lands and exciting new cultural experiences, but do you like the long haul flight to get there, or would you rather travel somewhere that is only just a short hop away? I don't like long haul flights as I don't sleep. I wish I could. Do you have any tips for sleeping on a long haul flight? I would love to hear from you if you do!

I call the above pic my Himalayas image. I took it one very early morning flying somewhere over that part of the world on the way back from Paris about 12 years ago. And no I hadn't slept, but I loved this scene with the early morning sun and the mountain tops peeping through the clouds. If I'd been asleep I would have missed it! And bonus! I had a window seat!

We haven't done a lot of international travel, but here are a few links to posts I've written about places we have been to (including some across Australia trips - Western Australia, where we live, is the most isolated state in Australia....)

Remembering beautiful Paris

Where was your last trip that you flew to? Perhaps you would like to tell us about it in your comments.

Have and great week and happy travels.

  2. As I've often said, we moved to Greece in part to give ourselves a base for travel that was closer than the 22+ hours it took us to get anywhere from our previous Seattle home. We flew from Rome to Athens yesterday in an hour and a half and can reach Cairo in two hours. . .this base is working its travel magic! Great post, great photos and great trips you've taken, Jill.

    1. i'm actually very envious of the travel people in Europe can enjoy, but Australia is still my favourite place in the world.

  3. Ohhhh don't start me as I'm just about to get on an overnighter back to Bangkok... But my next flight after that is back to Melbourne that always makes me happy! I love your remembering Africa photo, it would be great to do a Safari, last time I was there we were backpacking and had no money for one! Paris looks amazing from on high doesn't it? It so orderly and grand!

  4. Ohh Italy and Norway and Ireland and Portugal - so many places I'd still love to explore more of. I don't have a problem sleeping on planes - after dinner I just close my eyes and I go zzzz for a few hours. Sometimes I might take a couple of paracetemol which somehow seems to calm my system!

  5. As another one who lives in a huge country, I am no stranger to flying. I regularly fly across the Rockies to visit my son, but don't consider that a trip....so I guess the last trip I took was to Australia. I didn't have any trouble sleeping, as I took a half a Gravol tablet, drank a bottle of water and was off to dreamland. In June I'll go to Nova Scotia to visit family - still in Canada but an all-day trip necessitating three planes and more than 12 hours. It's not for the faint of heart! I wish it were easier to get around this big country! On my wish list? Another trip to New Zealand, a visit to Africa and another visit to Argenina.

  7. You make travel images look like picture postcards! Beautiful!
We haven't taken a vacation in nearly 3 years...maybe this Autumn, have to watch my health and see what happens.
I was an Flight Attendant back in the day and went on 289 flights. Can't fly too much any longer as my ears are greatly affected. If I could travel far it would be to the Tuscan region of Italy...for whatever reason, it has just always called my name.
