Remembering beautiful Paris

In the light of the tragedies this past weekend in Paris, the effects of which have reverberated around the world, I am posting a few images from our trip to Paris in July 2005.  Beautiful Paris.

But first take a minute to watch this beautiful video
I don't understand the words - but the feeling is real - a feeling of hope for peace for all - it brings tears to my eyes

And with these images comes a prayer for peace around the world and my thoughts go out to my French friends both living here or abroad and those in Paris.

  1. What a beautiful tribute Jill. Your photos are so evocative of a beautiful and less brutal time in this city's evolution. I love the Warsan Shire poem too :)

  2. thanks for this post. Beautiful shots taken 10 years ago but who would have thought 10 years on we wooud be mourning for the people who were gunned down. I totally agree with you when you say. 'PRAY FOR OUR WORLD'

  3. Lovely photos of Paris Jill. It is hard to believe that anyone in the world would want to inflict such violence on innocent people. Paris must be hurting very deeply. I hope this does not prevent travellers from visiting this beautiful city.

  6. First of all, stunning photos of Paris! Beautiful city. So beautiful. I know I will never go. And secondly, you are right about the whole world needing prayer. There is evil in the world, touching all our lives, and only God can heal that pain and destroy that evil. Beautiful post.

  8. My dream come true would be for every kind of people and cultures to live in peace. I find it difficult to understand the killings. It saddens me so. Why the hatred? I have only been to Paris once, a gift from in-laws when we had our 25th anniversary (he died after 37th anniversary in 2012) as my husbands family had been from France. We had a lovely hotel halfway between the Louvre and Eiffel Tower. It was a lovely city and people were so nice. To see horror take place there (or anywhere) is beyond belief. So sad.

  22. I really like that Warsan Shire poem. I haven't read it before, although the one following popped up numerous times in the days after the attack. I hope that Paris keeps its essence despite all the terror. Your photos are a beautiful tribute to the city.

  25. I started thinking about Beirut, which I heard about first, on Twitter. I still have not seen or heard a mention on national news here in the States. And now we can add Mali to this list. So sad, Jill. We're living in some crazy, incomprehensible times so thank you for your moving tribute to Paris and lament for a world gone mad. The poems are spot on.

  26. What beautiful photos and tribute to Paris, as well as thoughtful reflections about our world and humankind. With each new day comes light and hope, and despite all the tragedy and despair in the world, I want to be hopeful and believe that we will move toward greater and greater peace and tolerance. Thank you for the reminders, they will help us get there. And Thank you so much for your comments and thoughts and prayers for me and my family. Blessings to you and yours, Jill. xo

  27. My heart is still aching at such tragedy which happened in Paris, and those times which have haunted each of us before and will in the future, sadly. Your beautiful images of Paris are so beautiful and I am sure they reflect such a time of intrigue and visions of beauty, and fragrances still lodged near your heart's memory. May those who lost loved ones, find peace in some fashion and hopefully hold hope for the future. Blessings and hugs to you my friend. It has been a very busy, wonderful time here and I am finally catching up~
