ANZAC day is a special day of remembrance and commemoration and I too wrote about it this week. There are many war memorials in Australian country and regional areas and I have visited a few. I know that those names from WW1 were young men, from the bush or the river or the sea who knew nothing of where they were going but knew why they Denyse Whelan.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16888810644186418559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8845699976525218769.post-56772335054707021722018-04-27T07:12:55.013+08:002018-04-27T07:12:55.013+08:00What a moving post! Since we don't have Anzac day here in the States, I didn't know when it was. And I was surprised to find that it falls on my daughter's birthday.Jillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04163745830176990523noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8845699976525218769.post-28628943398988410002018-04-27T03:50:23.671+08:002018-04-27T03:50:23.671+08:00So sad all the men and woman who have lost their l...So sad all the men and woman who have lost their lives in wars! I lost a great uncle at Gallipoli in 1915 who was only 19 years old. I remember seeing his memorial plaque at Lone Pine at Gallipoli when I visited in 2012. It was very moving. #TeamLovinLifeKathy Marrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01096591807957091449noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8845699976525218769.post-13431157682686230472018-04-26T19:17:07.775+08:002018-04-26T19:17:07.775+08:00The memorial is so touching. The memorial is so touching.Tamar SBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13917555264723740413noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8845699976525218769.post-33130037345522778942018-04-26T03:31:33.891+08:002018-04-26T03:31:33.891+08:00Thank you for this moving post, Jill, which brings...Thank you for this moving post, Jill, which brings me tears. Here in Israel the Australian Embassy always makes a solemn ANZAC Day ceremony (followed by a reception) in our several Commonwealth War Cemeteries. Today I blogged about the graves in Beer Sheva. The Aussie soldiers have always been much loved and appreciated here. May their memory be for a blessing. Although I do not have a family member that was lost to war, my husband's grandfather was on the beach at Dunkirk for several days until he could get off the beach. He is gone now, but he would never talk about his war experiences. And yet, he was one of the most joyful people I have ever met!!!Angiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08490533253436208034noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8845699976525218769.post-61738684996314775832018-04-25T01:44:38.494+08:002018-04-25T01:44:38.494+08:00We took a trip to Kanchanaburi, Bridge over the Ri...We took a trip to Kanchanaburi, Bridge over the River Kwai ... when you see the endless graves of the fallen and read the messages on the headstones, it is so moving... many no older than my son. Here in Canada we remember our war dead on Remembrance Day, November 11, formerly known as Armistice Day. It's a solemn time. We use the words from the poem you quoted from, too, as well as the poem In Flanders Fields, written by John McCrae, a Canadian in WWI. We must remember. <br />This post is Lorriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03653026442945027184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8845699976525218769.post-6366965087003596082018-04-24T06:48:58.374+08:002018-04-24T06:48:58.374+08:00So wonderful to never forget and always honor thos...So wonderful to never forget and always honor those who died for freedom.Rose Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07180873324576064516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8845699976525218769.post-17990393839219942902018-04-24T06:11:58.924+08:002018-04-24T06:11:58.924+08:00Your post is a great tribute to the fallen, Jill! ...Your post is a great tribute to the fallen, Jill!
